About Don & Mike's Golf Outing
The Don & Mike Golf Outing began in 1999 when Don Hughes and Mike Lanoue entered a tournament in Williamsburg, Virginia, with their sons, Don and Michael. What started as a simple father-son weekend quickly turned into something bigger. The next year, a few more friends and their sons wanted to join—and just like that, a tradition was born.
Now, 26 years later, the outing has grown into a four-day annual event with 40 players from across the country and around the world. It brings together three generations of guys, all united by the game and the bonds that come with it.
Founded by former JAG Warrant Officers, the outing has always had military roots. Today, it includes current and retired military from all branches, alongside a growing group of civilian friends who’ve become part of the extended golf family.
In 2024, Don Jr. and Mike Sr. ran the tournament for the final time, passing the torch to Don III and Michael Jr. In their first year leading the charge, they took the group to the Smoky Mountains for four unforgettable days filled with unreal views, plenty of banter, and golf that ranged from laser-accurate to lost-in-the-woods.
The courses and scorecards may change, but the spirit of the event stays the same!

After 25 years of pulling this off, we want to say thank you for the planning, the commitment, and the memories that somehow keep getting better every year.
Mike, we all know you were the steady hand behind the scenes. Donnie, we all know you kept him on his toes with just enough new ideas to make things interesting. It worked.
From the early days of father-son golf weekends and questionable Hooters traditions (what happens there definitely does not stay there) to 40 guys spread across four days in the mountains, you two built something special.
This outing has grown into more than a golf trip. It is a tradition rooted in friendship, competition, and time well spent, and it only exists because of what the two of you created and carried forward.
